Bruce Tobin, is an industry leading real estate executive with over 40 years in commercial retail leasing, for both landlords and tenants.
At Simon Property Group, the largest retail landlord in the U.S., and where Mr. Tobin spent over 20 years of his career, primarily as Senior EVP and COO of Leasing, he transformed the leasing department in both its structure and approach to lease negotiations and workouts. More specifically, Bruce managed the leasing business for many of Simon’s largest retail tenants, created the Restructuring Group and led all the lease restructuring efforts for Simon; and as Head of the National Restaurant Group, he was instrumental in formulating and overseeing the strategic efforts to dramatically expand the F&B business in Simon’s properties.
Most recently, Mr. Tobin was the Executive VP, Global Corporate Real Estate for The Gap, where he oversaw retail real estate operations for all Gap brands including: leasing, store development, store design/architecture and real estate finance. Bruce led his team to ensure Gap’s portfolio of stores were strategically located, the right size, the right expressions of each Brand and, of course, were at affordable and appropriate economics. As part of those responsibilities, Bruce led the efforts to dramatically restructure the Gap’s portfolio by initiating a store closure process designed to reduce The Gap’s global store count in half and significantly reduced the rent for all of The Gap brand’s surviving stores.
